What genre do you write it?
Dark humor zombie-related stuff
What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?
None. I am not well traveled unfortunately.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Depends on if it’s creating or editing! Creating is energizing and leads to 4+ hour sessions, and pages of notes. Editing has been sucking the life out of me for a year.
What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Some writers suck, but write volumes. Some want perfection and never release anything. I’m probably not as good as I think AND I wait to long to put out new stuff!
What is your writing Kryptonite?
Kids in the room. Loving my wife so much I hang out instead of write during non-kid time.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
My first book stands alone, but I’m now thinking to adapt it to the darkest of prepper humor, and sub zombies for starving humans trying to survive a forever power outage, and do it as a 2-pack “compare and contrast” edition. Also nearly done co-authoring a different book with Nic Roads from the Zombie Pen FB group, which I moderate. That is planning on being a series.
How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Not at all really. Just tried to get it cleaner on the first draft to save on editing. Spoiler: it didn’t work, still editing.
What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?
As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
Venomous snake. I laze around, not being as active as I could be. But when I get a chance I attack my writing potently. Now I need more “victims” lol.
What’s the best way to market your books?
So far, Facebook.
How many hours a day do you write?
If you didn’t write, what would you do for work? Or do you work full time?
I’m a homeschooling dad, it’s a 12 hour day with no weekends!
What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?
My lack of height? If it made me good enough, I’d ditch a ring-toe...
