Vacation Time - TV and Movie Reviews
Vacation time is finally here, I booked the trip to Aruba over a year ago and it totally feels like longer than that!
We thought it would be cool to do something for my 40th the big 40. Some of my coworkers have been to Aruba before and said it was great. They were totally right! They also said it’s expensive again they were right.
Luckily I packed, noodles, cereal, cereal bars, vodka, and Malibu and sun lotion to keep us going.
Aruba is beautiful and expensive. Which means loads of naps, I’m not sure I’ve slept so much in a long time. We also had a lot of fun!
On my birthday we went on a pirate ship where we got to go snorkeling. In the evening Gavin sang karaoke, and then the family busted some moves on the dance floor. Once again we were the best dancers in town.
Then Gavin and I went to the casino, we had a laugh and lost a little money.
All in all fun birthday.
TV and movie review time, shockingly I’ve not been hungover this trip, but still got some good TV action in!
I spoke too soon, Gavin just came down to the beach where I’m typing this up and said, “do you fancy a drink,” we’re flying tomorrow we never drink the day before flying nothing worse than a hangover and flying. My response, “sure why not. I can’t think of what to talk to you about. So we may as well drink.” Then quickly followed up with, “that’s a bad idea.”
Which sent Gavin into confusion, “do you want to drink or not?”
“It’s up to you.” Omitting any responsibility for tomorrow's hangover.
Gavin headed back to the holiday room to get drinks. I’m guessing the hangover tomorrow won’t be pretty.
Back to the TV and Movie reviews.
Spider-Man Far For Home.
Peter Parker's relaxing European vacation takes an unexpected turn when Nick Fury shows up in his hotel room to recruit him for a mission. The world is in danger as four massive elemental creatures -- each representing Earth, air, water, and fire -- emerge from a hole torn in the universe. Parker soon finds himself donning the Spider-Man suit to help Fury and fellow superhero Mysterio stop the evil entities from wreaking havoc across the continent.
I watched Spider-man on the plane and had quite a few laugh out loud moments. I love the young cast. I hated Toby maguire as Spiderman, the new Spiderman is great! I’m also a fan of Zendaya I used to watch kids show KC Undercover with Callie that she starred in. Oh, and she was great in The Greatest Showman (I loved that movie don’t tell anyone).
Vacation Rating 3.8 made the flight go super quickly which was awesome.
Peter Parker: You look really pretty.
MJ: Therefore I have value?
Peter Parker: No...That’s not what...
MJ: I'm just messing with you. You look pretty too.
Flash: He's no Spider-Man.
Betty: What's with you and Spider-Man?
Flash: What? He's got a dope suit, he watches out for the neighborhood, and I really respect him... (To Peter Parker) Sup, D*ck-wad!?
Peter Parker: I think Nick Fury just hijacked our vacation.
When ten people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are and how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home, only to discover the world is not as it seems.
The open scene got my interest, the cast woke up on a beach and didn’t have a clue why they are there or who they are.
I also like Chase olive pants. It is weird how no one wanted to explore the island and work out where they were. That would be the first thing I’d want to do. Say if you walk through the jungle you found an all-inclusive hotel lol.
When the muscles guy took off his top, his arms were covered in tattoos that would be the first thing you’d look at if you didn’t have a clue how you were.
Great line, “I have a bad feeling about this.” They’re shipwrecked, with no memory, of course, they should have a bad feeling about this.
Bit of bad acting, but the first episode got me interested. I’m watching the second one now.
She just wakes up and sees a life raft, the first thing you would do is blow the shell horn, as there are sharks out there. But she didn’t. She broke it at the end of the first episode, and there was a camera. They better have her going back to it by the end, it’s a bit daft.
Raft filled with loads of goodies, sweet! Lol, she got annoyed at one of the other characters for hiding the freshwater and now she’s hid everything, totally out of character.
I ended up getting suckered into three episodes, the acting just keeps getting worse. The only good thing is that I’ve got passed the twist so now I know why they are on the island. Yippee, I don’t have to watch this anymore.
Vacation Rating 0 killed some time and I think brain cells as well.
There was none because it was terrible.
In the shadows of the moon
In 1988, a police officer is hungry to become a detective and begins tracking a serial killer who resurfaces every nine years. But when the killer's crimes defy all scientific explanations, the officer's obsession threatens to destroy everything.
His head on the grill was so gruesome, nice opening scene.
Really interesting movie, I didn’t know it was a time travel movie so that was a nice twist.
Vacation Rating 3.8 I keep thinking about this movie it really was quite an interesting concept.
I didn’t put this on the TV when we came back from a walk it was on. Then Callie and Gavin went for another walk and I watched the following movie for a bit, a bad idea.
In December 2004, close-knit family Maria (Naomi Watts), Henry (Ewan McGregor) and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand. But the day after Christmas, the idyllic holiday turns into an incomprehensible nightmare when a terrifying roar rises from the depths of the sea, followed by a wall of black water that devours everything in its path. Though Maria and her family face their darkest hour, unexpected displays of kindness and courage ameliorate their terror.
OMG This was crazy to watch while sitting in a holiday room with an ocean view. Never, I mean NEVER watch this movie when you're on holiday and can see the ocean!
I watched 10 minutes and was nearly in tears.
Gavin and Callie returned for their walk and I quickly turn over the TV and told them not to watch it.
I’m totally going to watch it when I get home! Little Tom Holland was awesome in the movie.
Holiday rating 0 not because of the movie more because it’s totally not a movie to watch when you can see the ocean at the same time.
Shaun of the Dead
Shaun (Simon Pegg) is a 30-something loser with a dull, easy existence. When he's not working at the electronics store, he lives with his slovenly best friend, Ed (Nick Frost), in a small flat on the outskirts of London. The only unpredictable element in his life is his girlfriend, Liz (Kate Ashfield), who wishes desperately for Shaun to grow up and be a man. When the town is inexplicably overrun with zombies, Shaun must rise to the occasion and protect both Liz and his mother (Penelope Wilton
I watched this on the plane for the hundredth time, and loved every minute of it! Shaun of the dead is one of the best movies ever! Gavin watched it as well and we were both laughing away, even Callie knew parts of it and she was laughing even without the volume because she knew the movie that well.
Vacation Rating 5!!! Best movie ever! If I’m stuck on a desert island this is the movie idea take with me. I love it so much it gave me ideas for my Fog series.
Oh the classics are on the TV
After a string of bizarre bank robberies in Southern California, with the crooks donning masks of various former presidents, a federal agent, Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves), infiltrates the suspected gang. But this is no ordinary group of robbers. They're surfers -- led by the charismatic Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) -- who are addicted to the rush of thievery. But when Utah falls in love with a female surfer, Tyler (Lori Petty), who is close to the gang, it complicates his sense of duty.
I’ve not watched this for years and loved every minute of it. Callie and Gavin watched it as well. Gavin wanted to turn the TV off before the end and Callie asked him not to because she was watching it. Keanu and Patrick, looked like tasty snacks!
Vacation Rating 4
Bohdi: Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true.
Ben Harp: Do you think that taxpayers would like it Utah, if they knew that they were paying a federal agent to surf and pick up girls?
Johnny Utah: Babes.
Ben Harp: I beg your pardon?
Johnny Utah: The correct term is Babes, sir.
Great movie to end our vacation with, and guess what, we didn’t have a hangover on the second to last day!!! Yippee, Aruba was awesome!
