  • Inhabitable | Invasion Survivor Book Two | Chapter Twenty-Three

Paige’s mind raced as she watched blue spheres force the black wave to completely retreat.

“AJ!” Paige screamed at the top of her lungs.

AJ was standing in front of the tourist space shuttle, the word Genesis painted on its side. AJ signaled for her to run to him.

“Get up, boys and girls. It’s morning. We need to get moving.”

Paige heard her mom’s voice as she opened the wardrobe doors, letting the light in. Yawning, Paige, Willow, Tilley, and Peter all climbed out.

Paige stretched, glad to be out of that cramped space at last. It was still weird to sleep at all. She didn’t need it, and her troubled mind wouldn’t let her have a moment of peace anyway.

Bodies were scattered across the ground from the spaceship, and by the looks of it, they were all dead. Several others who were on their feet didn’t last long and quickly collapsed before dying in the street.

“Mom! Willow!” Paige whispered as she ran to hug them. Willow was beaming with happiness to see her and met her halfway.

“Paige! You’re here!” her sister exclaimed, hugging her with all her might. Paige was pleased to see she had her bracelet, and that comforted her.

I need to run away from them! was the only thought in Paige’s mind.

She needed to get away from them before it was too late. It sucked she’d been discovered, but if she managed to escape, all would not be lost.

AJ looked around himself and sighed. Maybe this wasn’t such a hot idea.

Getting on the spaceship was easy, but now everyone was treating him like he was one of the captured humans, and he couldn’t break away. Also, Mrs. Moon, Willow, and Dave weren’t there, so it was a complete bust.

They ran with everything they had toward the buildings across the streets. It was an apartment building, but they kept going anyway. Paige quickly looked behind her, and to her despair, the police officer had gotten up and was now coming after them.

All the bullets Paige emptied inside of him seemed to make him slower, but she had no way of knowing how long that would last.

  • Inhabitable | Invasion Survivor Book Two | Chapter Sixteen

AJ waited until Paige was fast asleep to act. He knew she would be pissed at him, but despite her protests and arguments, this was something he needed to do alone.

This wasn’t some ego trip on his part. AJ had no interest in playing lone hero. However, looking at all the facts laid out before him, he knew this was the right decision. Going alone to the mothership would give them the best chance of leaving it as well.

  • Inhabitable | Invasion Survivor Book Two | Chapter Fifteen

“Paige! Dave! I’m coming!” Dave could hear AJ yelling, and he was never so glad to hear another guy’s voice before.

Dave couldn’t move at all. The shadowy slime gripped him so tightly, he was sure it rearranged some of his internal organs.

Paige wanted to run away from AJ at that moment, but there was nowhere for her to run. She was trapped, surrounded by the mass.

Her heart felt as though it had stopped beating for a second. Did I hear AJ right? He’s one of them?

  • Inhabitable | Invasion Survivor Book Two | Chapter Thirteen

Being trapped inside that wardrobe made Paige sick to her stomach. She should have tried to save other people. Yes, she managed to save the family from this apartment, but maybe she felt like she should have done more. There was always a way, but in the end, she was too afraid to come out and fight.
