Stowaway | Invasion Survivor Book Three | Chapter Eight
“I don't like this guy. He feels dangerous,” Francis growled inside AJ's head. “He wants Paige. You should kill him,” he continued in the same manner.
AJ mentally rolled his eyes.
“I'm not going to kill him.” Although, he had to agree with his alien friend. He didn't like this dude who appeared seemingly out of nowhere. He didn't like him one bit.
But was he dangerous? AJ still wasn't sure about that.
Francis' erratic behavior did put him a bit on edge, but that wasn’t anything new.
“Can we come, too?” Peter asked excitedly, bringing AJ back to the present.
AJ felt like saying no. They couldn't bring them without knowing how dangerous it could get. No need for all of them to end up in trouble.
“I can look after them,” Dillon offered.
Paige looked at AJ for help. It was very nice of him to offer.
“That bastard’s trying to take our girl!” Francis yelled.
But they didn't know Dillon, and these guys were their responsibility after all.
“Thanks, man, but we got this,” AJ replied, gesturing for Peter and Tilley to get up.
“We'll get them back to the cargo area then start searching for your mom.”
Paige nodded, liking that plan. They said their goodbyes to Dillon and left the Common Room.
“You know, we’re not that young,” Tilley stated flatly.
“Yeah, we can take care of ourselves,” Peter agreed.
“We know,” Paige replied instantly. “I'm not worried about you. I'm worried about everyone else around you,” she added with a wink.
“I’m still hungry,” Peter admitted.
AJ was impressed with the kid’s appetite. It was eerie how much he reminded him of Dave. He still felt guilty for not getting to him on time, but he was confident Brooke would help him.
“Yeah, Dave is a cool guy. Even though he likes Paige, too,” Francis added.
“I have something extra in my backpack,” Paige told Peter, who nodded and then sighed.
“What is it?” AJ asked.
“I wish I was rich. Then I could buy all the delicious food in the world.”
At that point, they descended to the cargo area.
AJ smiled. “Not me. If I had billions of dollars, I would buy myself a race car.”
Paige rolled her eyes. “That is so typical,” she teased.
“Oh really? What would you do?” AJ challenged.
“I would travel all over the world and maybe become a photographer.”
He could see that. She would be good at it.
“I agree,” Francis mentally nodded.
“I would hire my favorite band to play for me all year long,” Tilley added wistfully.
Other people who were down there clearly overheard their conversation because they weren't shy about smiling at Tilley's words.
“I would become a Hollywood action star and buy myself a studio,” added one boy that was a bit bolder than the others.
“I would buy all the chocolate in the world,” added another, one and Peter nodded in eagerness.
“Well, I guess you're in luck then,” Paige announced, “because I have some.” She produced a chocolate bar and gave it to Peter who shared it with his new friends.
The light chatter continued, and while it was very easy to lose themselves in a game of what if's, the worried look on Paige's face reminded AJ that they had to get going.
“Let's go,” AJ told her, and she nodded after making sure Tilley and Peter would be all right.
It was difficult to find Angela since Paige had no idea what kind of rooms this spaceship had. The only way to find out was to wander around and look.
“This is a big ship. Where should we start?” AJ said, voicing almost exactly what was going through Paige’s head.
She thought about that for a moment. “Honestly, I don't know. Let's just check every room on our way.”
“Sounds like a plan,” AJ replied, offering her his arm like a gentleman inviting a lady for a stroll. She took it, smiling from ear to ear.
A guard looked at them with a frown, probably thinking they’d lost their minds, acting the way they did, but Paige didn't care. Better to think she was a bit weird than dangerous.
“Paige!” someone called out to her.
“Tilley, what are you doing here?” Paige demanded.
“I got bored down there. Please let me come with you,” she pleaded, making puppy eyes at the both of them.
Paige, being the sucker, she was, caved in. “Fine, but stay close, and do everything we say,” Paige warned.
“Yes, I promise,” Tilley said while nodding her head enthusiastically.
They started to explore the spacecraft. It was much bigger than Paige originally thought. Suddenly, she saw something that made her stop in her tracks.
No freaking way...
